Aurora project is a sustainably ethical project through which employers and the nursing training institute IVV (Belgium) aim to fill the bottleneck vacancies in the Flemish elderly care sector in Flanders (Belgium) through sustainable recruitment of healthcare workers by active economic migration from Kerala.

Job Profile

  • Certified GNM Degree from a recognized institution.
  • Evidence of clinical practice (minimum 1 year experience).
  • IELTS overall band score of minimum 6 and preferably 7 OR OET score of minimum C+ and preferably B.
  • Both male and female.
  • Age: Below 35 years
  • If candidates have children, the youngest child should at least be 3 years old at the start of the Dutch training.
  • Keen interest in elderly, geriatric and psychiatric care (prime focus on geriatric care)
  • Willing to work in an elderly care home.
  • Willing to follow a one-year additional training programme about geriatric care, psychiatry and the Belgian health care system, in combination with part-time work in an elderly care home as a Health care assistant.
  • Enthusiastic and motivated to take up new challenges.
  • Strong drive to practice Dutch intensively on a daily basis.
  • Able to combine studies and work simultaneously.
  • Have a keen interest to learn about the vision of mental healthcare and elderly care in Belgium (Flanders).
  • Empathetic and compassionate towards elderly citizens.
  • Ability to deal with emotionally charged and pressured situations.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Easily adaptable to the use of technological equipment.
  • A team player who enjoys working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Adequate amount of intercultural communication skills.
  • Offer customized care along with the health status and quality of life of the elderly resident (physically and mentally).
  • Plan, execute, evaluate and follow up on the quality care of elderly residents.
  • Provide daily hygienic care, wound care.
  • Facilitate elderly resident’s active participation in all aspects of their own health care.
  • Provide psychological support and embrace positive mental well-being among elderly residents.
  • Record the elderly resident’s medical information and vital signs.
  • Assess the elderly resident’s ability to do routine daily tasks.
  • Prepare, administer and record prescribed medications. Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.
  • Pay attention to the elderly resident’s meal events and fluid intakes.
  • Support the dementia process, depression, mourning and loss of autonomy.
  • Supervise the physical comfort and safety of the elderly resident.
  • Free 6 months intensive Dutch language course in Kochi, Kerala by native Dutch teachers.
  • Monthly stipend paid during the Dutch language course in Kochi, Kerala. (see Salary Breakdown below).
  • The costs of accommodation in India, VISUM D, the flight to Belgium is paid by the project.
  • Compensation on arrival in Belgium, worth €130 for start-up.
  • Salary according to the government pay scales (see Salary Breakdown below).
  • Job guaranteed after successful completion of the training in Belgium.
  • Become a registered nurse in Europe by receiving the Nursing graduate diploma of Hoger beroepsonderwijs (HBO5) after the completion of the one-year training.
  • Low-rent furnished house provided by the employer during the first year.

  • Rented house/apartment in Belgium (a place for living is provided for the first year, the candidate pays a rent of 450 EUR per month).
  • Living expenses in Belgium (transport, food, clothing, personal, …). The minimum amount of cash required upon arrival in Belgium is 150 EUR.
  • The elected candidates must have sufficient financial resources to bear these costs.
  • A first selection is carried out by ODEPC
  • Continued by a psychological test
  • Afterwards an interview with the future employer and the teachers of IVV (nurse school)
  • When you are selected, you can participate in the Aurora project, starting with the Dutch language course in July. Candidates need to reach the level of Dutch 2.1 by the month of September. There are permanent evaluations by the Dutch teachers. If the level of Dutch is not sufficient by the month of September, the possibility exists that the candidate cannot proceed the Aurora training program.

Candidates must be prepared to undergo a psychological screening before the process can begin.
